Lillian is a gender, human rights and women’s rights advocate. Lillian pioneered and established networks including the National Forum of People living with HIV Networks in Uganda (NAFOPHANU), the International Community of Women Living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA) – an advocacy network that has created a dent on the International, Region and National response. She has openly challenge any forms of human rights violations, stigma and discrimination and criminalization of HIV. Lillian has been at the forefront of fighting for a favorable legal and policy environment in Uganda that ensures all human beings access and enjoy their full rights including access to information, education, treatment and prevention services, and social justice. She has been at the forefront of challenging the gender norms, gender based and domestic violence that act as structural barriers to an AIDS-free generation. In her role directing ICWEA, the organisation has now grown to a regional organization with membership in the five (5) countries of East Africa and with a permanent home. She has shown exemplary commitment to serve and make herself available to women and young girls living with HIV nationally, regionally and globally.
In 2012, Lillian was recognized by Maryhill High School Old Girls Association (MOGA) for her enthusiasm to keep the self-esteem of women living with HIV in Eastern Africa. In 2014, she was awarded with the Inaugural Sisterhood Award by the International Community of women living with HIV and in 2015, she was awarded the Justice Makers Prize.
The Board Members, Staff and Members of ICWEA salute Lillian for the energy and dedication towards addressing the most pressing needs of women living with HIV&AIDS.
