The International Community of Women Living with HIV participated in the first ever National TB conference which was organized by the Ministry of Health and the National TB and Leprosy Program under the Theme “Reengaging All stakeholders to end the Tuberculosis is Epidemic in Uganda” which took place at Corrine Hotel – Mukono Uganda from 28th – 30th October 2015
The Objectives of this conference included:
- To highlight TB and HIV need for special attention
- To share priorities, strategies, best practices, and innovations to address TB/ Leprosy in Uganda
- To re- examine what has gone wrong in the fight against TB and forge a way forward towards ending the epidemic in Uganda
- Share TB and Leprosy education Material
- Present Leprosy control challenges, why we must stop transmission
The Conference was attended by approximately 500 participants who included a multi section of stake holder from different stakeholders including Ministry of Health Representatives at National and District Level bringing representation from approximately, 53 districts who included the DHO, CAO and the TB Focal person.
Also at the conference were implementing partners such as the AIDS Information Centre, Joint Clinical Research Centre, ( JCRC) , TASO Uganda, Project Makerere Water Reed Project, Infectious Disease Institute,, Mild May Uganda, Baylor Uganda, USAID Funded Star E, EC, SW, MJPAP, SUSTAIN, TRACK TB, community representative and Cvil society organizations and the TB affected communities, Uganda Sop TB Partnership,
Other development partners included CDC, USAID, Union, UNAIDS, WHO, PEPFAR, The National Medical Stores
The Conference was officiated by the Minster of Health, who was represented by the Director General Health Services. ICWEA was represented by the Programmes Manager, Dorothy Namutamba who made a moving statement representing CSO organizations in Uganda during the opening ceremony.
