The International Community of Women Living with HIV conducted field visits in Mukono and Mityana districts in Uganda on 11th – 12th January 2018 to get service recipients views on PEPFAR COP16 performance and their opinions what COP18 should look like.
The findings of the assessment are expected to add more data/information to the existing literature on understanding of the health services consumers’ level of satisfaction of HIV services provided. The voices will support the data/statistics collected by PEPFAR teams for evidence based decision-making and for improved quality of HIV and HIV related services that will contribute to attainment of the UNAIDS global targets (90:90:90).
Information collected will also be used by CSOs for evidence-based engagement with PEPFAR teams and other partners at national and regional review meetings and negotiating for universal health coverage.
The assessment is expected to provide lessons for delivering services that respond to the needs and realities of the various cohorts of the people living with, affected by and at high risk of HIV. The findings will also contribute to the design and planning procedures for the strategies that can result into better models of HIV service delivery – which models could facilitate adherence and retention for HIV prevention and care and treatment.
Findings will also provide valuable information to policy makers and other stakeholders in the HIV response. Further, the assessment may enable academics and researchers to use the information as a spring board for other related studies and also as a reference point in their data banks.
ICWEA worked in partnership with HEPS and WONETHA to carry out the assessment in both districts.
