The International Community of Women Living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA) is extremely delighted to announce that it held a two-days General Assembly for its members in Tanzania from 4th – 5th November 2014. During the General Assembly, ICW Tanzania elected new Board Members and developed a one-year action plan.
While the delegates were excited that women had come this far, they acknowledged that they were missing out on opportunities because they were working alone in their individual organisations and support groups. They resolved to work together as a one and a single voice for and on issues of women and girls living with HIV:
“We have the capacity to be better, we have demanded and now have a desk for civil society organisations at TACAIDS but we must work together as women living with HIV as one voice to make sure we get women living with HIV to be given a desk and special posts in these processes” – Joan Chamungu, the incoming Vice Chairperson
The Guest of Honour, Mr. Morris Lekule representing the Executive Chair of TACAIDS commended ICW Tanzania for the gesture of good governance while officiating at the official opening ceremony:
“TACAIDS is excited to be invited to this important meeting to elect new Board Members, an exemplary act of good governance and an important basis for the growth of the network”.
During her maiden speech, the incoming Chairperson, Ms. Consolata John said, “our promise is total commitment, hard work and self-motivation – for that is what the network currently needs”.
