Just like the average Ugandan, women living with HIV have demands that they want the upcoming aspiring political candidates to address. These demands have been put together in what is now known as The Women Living with HIV Manifesto 2016 – 2021.

In order to make the demands known to the electorate and the aspirants, staff of the International Community of Women Living with HIV held a talk show on one of the popular local radio stations CBS FM whose frequency is 88.8.

The talk show which was graced by the Executive Director Lillian Mworeko also intended to put to task aspirants belonging to different political parties to commit to meeting these demands. These were represented by Hon Nakato Kyabangi , Gomba Woman MP and Kalule Timothy a Health Expert from the Ministry of Health.

These liberated on the need to increase the health funding on the annual budget from 8.4% to 15% as per the Abuja Declaration.  They also talked about the need to pay special attention to the efforts to reduce new HIV infections among women and take care of the needs of women living with HIV who make up the biggest percentage of people living with HIV.

The political representatives acknowledged the need and explained that the government in the last years have concentrated on construction of roads for easy access to services as well as making renovations to some hospitals and health centers.

But even though this has been done, ICWEA knows that it is not enough because we still have 16 women dying because during labour, drug stocks continue to be a recurring issue, health infrastructure is still poor and facilities are depleted.

Our demand as ICWEA is for these issues to be delete with as is stated in our  Manifesto
