The International Community of Women Living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA) received a certificate of appreciation from Tusitukile Wamu Group, a network of people living with HIV, that advocates for the rights of sex workers. The group educates sex workers about their rights, it teaches them hands on skills like craft making as an alternative means of earning an income. The organisation also looks out for and offers scholarships to orphaned children.
ICWEA is a regional advocacy network by and for women living with HIV that also seeks to support community based organisations. For this organisation, ICWEA offered technical assistance, guidance and mentorship as the group carried out various projects in the Bwaise, a slum in Uganda.
ICWEA understands the challenges community based organisations face and continues to support and partner with organisations now and then especially those that are contributing towards HIV response efforts.
