2023 ICWEA Annual F.I.E.R.C.E (Fighter, Intelligent, Empowered, Resilient, Courageous and Excelling) Award
Background to the FIERCE Campaign/Awards:
Under the theme “Recognizing your contributions: inspiring young women leaders,” the 2023 ICWEA FIERCE Campaign Awards will recognize and celebrate the lives of women living with HIV at all levels, inspiring young women to take up leadership positions and build the movement of women beyond borders.
The objective of the campaign that culminates into awarding ceremony is to enhance the contribution of women and girl’s networks in the HIV response in the region, to motivate more young women leaders to advocate for the protection of human rights and elimination of stigma and discrimination; to strengthen feminism and women movement building beyond borders. The first awarding ceremony took place in March 2021 and today 8 winners from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda have been recognized and awarded.
Objectives of the FIERCE Campaign and Awards:
- To recognize and celebrate the achievements of women living with HIV in the fight against HIV&AIDS.
- To motivate more young women leaders in their diversity to come out and take up the leadership roles;
- To advocate for the mainstreaming of the campaign in networks of women and girls living with HIV;
- To strengthen feminism and women movement building beyond borders.
Process for Nominations;
Nominate a Ugandan woman openly living with living with HIV (in all their diversity):
- Who has shown exceptional resilience in overcoming the challenges posed by HIV & are actively empowering themselves & others to end AIDS And its associated social-cultural and economic challenges;
- Who has taken on leadership roles in advocating for the rights of people living with HIV and have shown a strong commitment to HIV&AIDS activism;
- Who has developed innovative and creative approaches to HIV&AIDS prevention, treatment, care, and support, and who are actively implementing these approaches in their communities;
- Who has engaged with and mobilized their communities in the fight against HIV&AIDS, & who have actively involved people living with HIV&AIDS in their initiatives;
- Who has shown a commitment to educating their peers and communities about HIV&AIDS, and who have raised awareness about the importance of prevention, testing, treatment, and care;
- Who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and are actively mentoring other young women living with HIV&AIDS to become leaders in their communities and;
- Who has contributed to Women Movement Building.
Some of the key areas that will be considered but not limited to will include: Advocacy, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights, Human Rights, Stigma and discrimination, Representation of women issues and priorities, Leadership and Community Mobilization.
To nominate a candidate, please send an email with your nominations, along with the supporting details highlighting the name of the person, contact (telephone/email), age, region/district and impactful contributions and remarkable work done by the nominee in their community and their contacts by Sunday 21st May 2023, 5pm East African time.
